Columbia police: Officer fired gun at suspected shooter
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ Police in central Missouri say a Columbia officer fired his service weapon at a suspect after officers responding to a disturbance encountered gunfire.
Columbia police say the officers were approaching a crowd of people early Saturday in a parking lot when shots rang out. Police say a 31-year-old man was shot, and officers engaged a 27-year-old suspect, with one officer firing his weapon. The suspect fled to nearby woods and was later found with a gunshot wound.
Both injured men were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.
Police say it’s unclear whether the suspect was shot by the officer or someone else. Internal affairs and the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating. No arrests had been made by Saturday afternoon.
