FDA warns parents against using teething medications

ST. LOUIS- The F D A  is warning parents not to treat their child with homeopathic remedies –or over the counter medications — which are rubbed on the gums.

The problem is the anesthetic ingredient benzocaine (ben’-zo-cane). They say using these products can lead to a serious and sometimes fatal condition.

The FDA recommends massaging your child’s gums with your finger if your child is having teething pain.
