Manhunt underway for fatal shooting suspect in southern Missouri

VAN BUREN, Mo. – Authorities in southeast Missouri are searching for a suspect after a deadly shooting in a rural area.

KFVS-TV reports that a 34-year-old man was found dead just after midnight Tuesday inside a home along a county road in Carter County. The victim’s name has not been released.

Sheriff Richard Stephens says a manhunt has begun in search of a 44-year-old suspect who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Authorities have not released further details about what prompted the shooting. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.

Carter County, with about 6,200 residents, is about 160 miles southwest of St. Louis.
