WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) _ The GOP has picked a replacement for the Lake County, Illinois, board chairman who ended his campaign for re-election and took a leave of absence for treatment of his drug addiction.

Kariar Brown was nominated for the 18th District seat formerly held by Aaron Lawlor.

Lake County Republican Chairman Mark Shaw says Brown is an experienced business woman, “as well as a terrific family-oriented, community volunteer.”

Brown was born and raised in Puerto Rico and graduated with a bachelor of science degree from the University of Florida. She’s married to former Chicago Bears linebacker Alex Brown.

Lawlor said earlier this month he’d rather “lose my job than lose my life” when he ended his candidacy for the 18th District seat, saying his addiction had damaged his life and personal finances.
