SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – Authorities say a mother of four has been killed in southwest Missouri.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that 32-year-old Slyolandra Patterson was found dead Saturday in her Springfield home from an apparent gunshot wound. Jail records show that her husband, 36-year-old Bob Houston, is jailed on suspicion of second degree murder.

Patterson’s younger sister, Desiree Fillmore, said Patterson and Houston got married in July. Fillmore said she knew they were having trouble, but there was no indication her sister was in mortal danger.

More than 30 people gathered Sunday evening outside Patterson’s home for a candlelight vigil and balloon release in her honor.

Longtime friend Mackenzie Kasparek described Patterson as a hard-working mother, who raised four children while often working two jobs.
