Maryland Heights man sentenced in shooting death of neighbor
CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) – A 29-year-old Maryland Heights man who said he was bothered by a constant deep bass noise has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for killing his neighbor.
James Blanton pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and armed criminal action before he was sentenced. He originally was charged with first-degree murder.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports 35-year-old Yi-Ping “Peter” Chang was killed in December 2015 at an apartment complex after police said Blanton demanded Chang “turn the bass down.”
Chang was watching a movie with his girlfriend when he was shot to death. It was unclear what was generating noise that could have disturbed Blanton. Chang’s girlfriend was uninjured.
