ST. LOUIS – Police are investigating a shooting that happened in broad daylight in south St. Louis.

Witnesses say a woman was lying on the front lawn of a home on Minnesota Avenue with a gunshot wound as first responders tried to revive her. Then just a few minutes later they say police took two people near that home into custody.

“It’s like the wild west down here. You never know when you’ll catch a stray bullet,” says Brett Villhard, a neighbor.

Police found a woman shot in the front yard of a south St. Louis home in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday. It happened in the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue.

“The ambulance, the first responders were doing CPR. They were pumping her chest, but I don’t think she made it,” he says.

Our partners at the St. Louis Post Dispatch say the woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“There were a lot of ambulances and a lot of cops and they were putting up tape and backing everybody off. It was quite the scene,” says Villhard.

We captured video of a man police put in handcuffs.

St. Louis Post Dispatch photographer JB Forbes snapped a shot of that same man backing down the steps of the home with his arms spread while police have their guns drawn.

According to the Post-Dispatch, this happened shortly after the woman was loaded into the ambulance and two men were taken into custody.

It was not clear what role the two men may have played in her death, if any.
