Student in custody after threat at St. Charles County high school

O'Fallon, Mo. —A high school student is in juvenile custody after threatening fellow students in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Authorities put a stop to the threat in the middle of the night.

The suspect is a student Liberty High School, which is in the Wentzville R-IV School District.

About 1,300 students attend the school.

Police started getting calls from parents around 10:30 pm last night and were zeroing in on the suspect by midnight.

Children alerted their parents to a fellow student’s posts on Snapchat.

Those posts included threatening messages and images toward a group of students, including at least one image with the student holding a firearm, police said.

Police took that student into custody at his home.

The weapon turned out to be an AirSoft rifle that shoots BB’s, police said.

Parents and students tell Fox 2/News 11 the threat was the student’s response to being pushed down the stairs.

Parents were notified by e-mail before classes began Wednesday.

All potential security enhancements were ‘on the table’, Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain said.

Still, the eyes and ears of parents and students are a district’s best defense, which certainly proved true for Liberty High School.

Authorities are releasing no further details.

Dr. Cain said he would share more with parents as the investigation progresses.
