Man gets 30 years for death of daughter’s ex-boyfriend
MOUNT VERNON, Mo. – A 53-year-old Carthage man who fatally shot is daughter’s ex-boyfriend has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Robert Waite Jr. was sentenced Tuesday for second-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Kevin Stafford in Mount Vernon.
The Joplin Globe reports Waite killed Stafford in August 2015 at the victim’s home. Stafford had called police earlier in the day to report that his ex-girlfriend, Deannda Mills, took his outdoor patio table and grill. Mills and her mother returned the table and grill to Stafford when a Mount Vernon police officer contacted her.
Prosecutors say the incident so infuriated Waite that he drove to Mount Vernon from Carthage to confront Stafford. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and police found Stafford suffering from gunshot wounds at his home.
