Woman convicted of embezzling more than $200,000

ST. LOUIS – A 48-year-old Missouri woman has been convicted of embezzling more than $200,000 from her former employer.

Wende Anne Terrill, of Maryland Heights, was convicted Tuesday of wire fraud.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that when Terrill was controller of Midwest Petroleum in 2017, she caused fraudulent checks to be issued to vendors who didn’t do any work for the company. She then hid the theft by manipulating accounting records.

Prosecutors said an investigation began when Terrill’s boss became suspicious about a $37,800 wire transfer in March 2017. Investigators found suspicious five-figure checks written to nonexistent vendors or for work that was not performed.

Sentencing is scheduled for June.
