Former arts teacher sentenced for paying boy for sex
BLOOMSDALE, Mo. – A former arts teacher at a prestigious suburban St. Louis school has been sentenced to five years of probation for paying an underage boy for sex.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 47-year-old Richard Joseph Schwartz Ives was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty last month to patronizing prostitution from a child 14 years old or younger. Authorities began investigating last June after a Ste. Genevieve County deputy stopped Ives with the boy in his car.
Charging documents say the deputy found 10 $20 bills in the pocket of the boy’s sweatshirt. The investigation found that Ives met the boy on the app Grindr and paid him for sex acts.
He was fired from the Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School campus in Ladue. The boy wasn’t a student.
