ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) -- Sadly, more than 10 million pets are lost every year and more pets go missing around Independence Day than any other time of year.

According to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP), less than two percent of cats and only 15 percent of dogs are returned to their owners when they become lost.

Steve Smolinski of The Dardenne Prarie Petco talked with Randi about Independence Day safety tips to protect for pet, and pets who were available for adoption.
