ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Want to strengthen your immune system for flu season? Add "super-foods" to your diet. Scientific research shows super-foods have super powers to fight illness and disease while offering nutrition.

Yogurt and its healthy probiotics battle infections and is said to improve asthma and eczema.  Some superfoods that are good for your heart include: oats, walnuts, salmon, leafy greens and dark chocolate.

Jen McDaniel with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietitics is here to talk about keeping these foods year round.

Recipe:

Cranberry Vinaigrette:

This festive salad dressing transforms canned cranberry into a sweet & tangy topping for any green salad.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup canned whole-berry cranberry sauce

1/4 cup fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon minced peeled fresh ginger

1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

To prepare the vinaigrette, place the first 7 ingredients in a medium bowl; stir well with a whisk.
