ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Here's a Christmas gift that lets the foodie in your life step back into time to the mid-1800s, a gift that shares the recipes and traditions of one of St. Louis' wealthiest couples—Robert and Virginia Campbell—who lived in a downtown mansion at 1508 Locust Street and entertained 19th century dignitaries like President Grant, Union General Sherman, and Chief Red Cloud.

Historian Susanne Corbett visits Fox 2 News in the Morning to share a recipe for Roman Punch from The Gilded Table.

Theron Ware’s Twentieth Century Roman Punch
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade
1 (12 ounce) can water
1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
zest of 1 orange
2/3 bottle champagne or domestic sparkling wine

1: In a large mixing bowl combine lemonade, water, orange concentrate, and orange zest.
2: Pour mixture into a freezing container and add champagne and freeze.
3: When ready to serve thaw until punch becomes slushy.
Makes about 1 1/2 quarts
