ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The Better Business Bureau is telling people beware of mailings from a Marietta, Georgia company that's soliciting customers for burial insurance policies. Those mailings don't tell you that your name may end up being sold to insurance sales agents.

The mailings are headed, “2016 Benefit Information for Missouri Citizens Only.” Each asks that the recipient’s name, spouse’s name, ages, and a phone number be returned to Direct Data Services at a postal box in Marietta.

BBB offers the following tips for consumers receiving mailings on life or health insurance or related benefits:

• Be wary of any mailer offering free publications, information or gifts. These often are inducements to get you to provide personal contact information.
• Never respond to any mailing and never provide personal information to anyone unless you know specifically who is requesting it and why.
• By responding to a mailing, you may be giving a telemarketer approval to contact you.
• Research the business and owners carefully before paying any money. Check the company’s BBB business review at www.bbb.org or by calling 314-645-3300.
