ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) -- Chris Carpenter is assigned to start in a minor league assignment.
He'll make his first minor league rehab start with the Springfield Cardinals today, where he's expected to throw about 60 pitches.
Carp had been sidelined with a nerve issue that kept him out of most of the 2012 season. He was expected to retire. Then suddenly Carp started throwing back in May and played a simulated game on Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
Rehab stints for pitchers can last up to 30 days, and if all goes well, Carp will be back in the rotation next month.
Dr. Lehman talked with Angie Mock about what can be expected from the ace as he prepares for his debut performance.
