ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is debunking a myth that men are better than women at chess.
Lauren Stewart, of the World Chess Hall of Fame, and Ryan Chester, of the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, visit the 9 AM Show to prove that chess is not a man’s game.
Men are NOT naturally better than women at chess. Historically, more men have played chess, and passed on that knowledge to their sons. As such, chess has become a male-dominated sport.
However, as evidenced by women like Hou Yifan, an elite chess player, women are more than capable of climbing the chess ranks.
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis hosts ‘Ladies Knight’ classes every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Women of all ages are welcome!
The club hopes to continue encouraging more women to learn the game of chess.
