(KTVI)- The Karla Smith Foundation is gearing up for the 2012 Erase the Stigma Conference.  The conference will feature three keynote speakers:  Nanci Schiman of The Balanced Mind Foundation and Cinda and Linea Johnson, authors of PERFECT CHAOS, a publication of St. Martin’s Press released in May.  The conference will be held August 24 & 25th at the Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville.

The Karla Smith Foundation provides help and support to family and friends of anyone with a mental illness or who lost a loved one to suicide. Karla Smith’s seven-year struggle with bipolar disorder began when she was 19. She committed suicide at age 26.  In her memory, the Smith family continues her commitment to help other families face these challenges.
