(KTVI)- C.J. Aubuchon in 2009 and Jake Franzel in 2012, two young men who both lost their lives after a battle with osteosarcoma. Sarcoma is the general term for a broad group of cancers that includes tumors that form in the bones and in connective tissues. It can affect people of all ages.

On Sunday, October 5, 2014, the first Cure Sarcoma 5k Run/Walk will be held in the St. Louis area. The goal is to create awareness about this extremely rare disease and raise money for much needed research.

The race will be held in Creve Coeur Park at 9:00 am (check-in at 7:30 am). 100% of the proceeds from this event will be split evenly between the Sarcoma Foundation of Am and Siteman Cancer Center for local sarcoma research conducted by Brian Van Tine, MD, PHD.
