ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-Larry D. Bonds is the executive director and founder of Larry D. Bonds Foundation For Life. In November 2008, he received a heart transplant after living for more than 20 years with heart disease. After his transplant, he made it his mission to educate and inspire others to share the gift of life.

National Minority Donor Awareness Week begins Saturday and runs through August 7. It was created to increase awareness of the need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors, especially among minorities. It also works to encourages everyone to take better care of their health in order to reduce the number of those people needing a transplant.

The Larry D. Bonds Foundation For Life will host a jazz and wine social fundraiser overlooking the greens on Saturday, August 1st at 6:00pm at Norwood Hills Country Club. Tickets are $75 or $ 100 each. Funds raised will go to do blood pressure checks and stroke assessments in the St. Louis community to encourage everyone know their health status.
