(KTVI) – Fruit flies may be mostly annoying, but they may also be our best allies when it comes to detecting cancer.

A team of German scientists discovered that fruit flies have a better sense of smell than cancer sniffing dogs. The flies can pin-point five different kinds of breast cancer.

So how do scientists know when the fly has found cancer?

They have genetically modified their antennae to glow when cancer is found.
