Turning garbage into garb: Salvation Army’s “Garbage Bag Gala” features designs crafted from recycled materials The Army’s “Garbage Bag Gala” will be held from 7-11 p.m. Aug. 2 at The Moonrise Hotel. Using recyclables and items most people would throw away, The Salvation Army and a team of more than 20 talented designers will team-up to display unique and fashion-forward designs while simultaneously raising awareness for the Army’s homeless and social-services programs. Among the anticipated list of designers is St. Louis native A.J. Thouvenot, who was featured on Season 8 of Project Runway, and will also serve as one of the event’s judges. One of his designs will be worn by Fox 2 news anchor Angela Hutti, who will also emcee the event.
After the runway lights are dimmed and the creations are put back on their hangers, the party will move to the hotel’s rooftop, where participants can enjoy food, drinks, live music from DJ Epic, and the company of St. Louis’ fashion community.
Those interested in attending the Gala can purchase half-price tickets to the fashion show for $25, and for those who want to party a little later, tickets for the fashion show and after party can be purchased for $50 – which includes two drink vouchers. Tickets are on sale now: www.stlsummerseries.com
After July 19, tickets will be full-price at $50 and $100.
The event is Aug 2 from 7-11pm at the Moonrise Hotel. Garbage Bag Gala will benefit The Salvation Army's Emergency Social Services in St. Louis which include working with the homeless, fighting hunger, and much more.
