ST. LOUIS – It’s the time of the year when we talk about fireworks and unfortunately, also when we talk about firework injuries.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, more than 44% of fireworks injuries were burns, 28% of those happening to the hands. Of course, other injuries happen, like disfigurement and severed fingers and hands. We encourage you to leave it to the professionals, but every year unfortunately injuries happen.

Washington University occupational therapist with the Milliken Hand Research Center Stacy Baker spoke on specializing in hands and upper extremities.
