(KTVI)- It is often said that we can learn many life lessons from those who have truly lived. That's the idea behind 1 Generation of St. Louisans new book titled, Life Lessons: 2.7 Million Years of Wisdom.

The book, published by Essence Healthcare, has some wisdom of its members and art work of local children.

All proceeds will benefit the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Two of the books' contributors, Jim Hoff, 72, from Fenton and  Barb Lehmier, 68, from St. Louis, tell us more.

Essence Healthcare figured out that the average age of the 40,000 seniors they serve, came out to 2.7 million collective years on this earth. That's a lot of knowledge.

"What you see is what you get, and what you get is plenty, if you use it wisely," said Hoff.

When asked about her contribution Lehmier says, "Life - what a wonderful gift! May each of us learn to slow down, live in the moment and laugh daily. Spread joy and be the person everyone is happy to see when you enter a room."
