ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - After a tragedy, a local decided to take matters into his own hands.

A year ago this week, a man was killed in the Metro East after he was hit by a pickup truck who couldn't see him because the grass was too high.

Illinois cut the budget, but the weeds kept growing. Tim McDermott was moved by the death, because it could have been avoided.

He decided to start mowing the grass near roads. He cuts about 1 mile of grass a week!

Not only has this been great for the community, but its been great for Tim's health too! He's lost about 25 pounds through the process!

If you see Tim mowing, give him a honk.
