ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Cholesterol drugs are among the most prescribed in America. A new class of cholesterol drugs could be a game-changer.

Dr. Justin Sadhu, a cardiologist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, shares his thoughts on the newest cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Similar to the way insulin is given to those with Diabetes, Alirocumab or Evolocumab the cholesterol drugs are given as injections. The patient would receive these injections either once every two weeks or once every four weeks.

The drugs have received an FDA advisory approval. An advisory committee recommended the FDA to approve these drugs and Dr. Sadhu anticipates the drugs to be available within the next six months.
