ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The Fourth of July is a time for celebration for “2-legged” Americans but for our 4-legged friends it can be an entirely different experience.  Sometimes it can be very frightening for animals because it’s believed that pets and fireworks don’t mix.

Dr. Travis Arndt from the Humane Society of Missouri joins us with some advice on how to keep your pets calm.

Here are some helpful tips:

DON`T:

-Don`t take pets to festivities.

-Don`t let your pet loose or leave your pet in a yard unattended

-Don`t confine a fearful dog on a chain or in a small area such as a crate. This could increase his panic.

-Don`t punish your pet for his behavior related to the loud noises. It will only make him more afraid.
