ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Rams fans upset by the recent news of their move to Los Angeles felt so hurt they even burned gear last night at Peppers Grill & Bar.

Dr. Rachel Gilk spoke with the FOX 2 crew this morning to discuss the stages of grief Rams fans are going through, and coping mechanisms to deal with the loss.

Fans get so much from identifying with their team. Research that shows that people gain a sense of goodwill, a shared purpose and a bonding that benefits all aspects of living.

Studies show that devoted sports fans have higher self-esteem and are less depressed, less alienated and less lonely. There's a sense of community and connectedness that comes with being a sports fan. Rooting for your favorite team can foster a sense of belonging much like what people find and being part of a church or social cause of some kind.
