ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI)- The 2016 U.S. Chess Championship and U.S. Women`s Championship will return to the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis
April 13 – 30.

Maurice Ashley the first African-American chess grandmaster will be inducted into the Chess Hall of Fame along with Gata Kamsky during opening ceremonies at the Jewel Box in Forest Park on April 13th starting at 6:30p.m. Ashley joined Pertz in the Fox 2 studio this morning to play some chess together.

The 2016 U.S. Championship is an elite national championship event featuring 12 of the strongest chess players in America.
Over the course of eleven rounds, the competitors will battle for $194,000 in prize money, qualification into the World Championship cycle, and the coveted title of 2016 U.S. Champion.

Kids from the Ferguson-Florissant School District chess program will be invited to the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis April 18 and 20 to interact with players and watch the tournament.
