Nut-Rimmed Butter Slices

These are a good make-ahead recipe, and can be cut and baked as you need or want them.

Nut-Rimmed Butter Slices

½ cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg yolks
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ cup walnuts, chopped fine
3 tsp. granulated sugar
1 egg white

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add egg, milk and vanilla; mix well.

Sift together dry ingredients and gradually add to butter mixture; mix thoroughly. Divide dough in half; shape each half into a 1 1/2″ roll/log on waxed paper; wrap in waxed paper and chill at least 1 hour.

In a small bowl, combine walnuts and sugar. Brush chilled dough roll/log with beaten egg white; roll in sugar/nut mixture, pressing nuts firmly into dough. Cut dough into 1/4″ slices and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400o for 7-10 minutes, or until lightly browned.
