Swedish Heirloom Cookies

These cookies have many names and even take on different characteristics occasionally. They are also known as Mexican Wedding Cakes, Russian Tea Cakes and are sometimes called “Crescents” from various countries … they may also contain other nuts like pecans or walnuts. Regardless of their name, they are very tasty and a definite on the holiday cookie tray!

Swedish Heirloom Cookies

Ingredients 1 cup butter or margarine

1 cup powdered sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 1/4 cups almonds, ground fine
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
powdered sugar


In mixing bowl, cream together butter, powdered sugar and salt; add in ground almonds and vanilla; gradually add flour. Blend well.

Shape into balls or crescents using a rounded teaspoon for each cookie. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 325o for 15-18 minutes (cookies will not brown).

COOL cookies … then roll in powdered sugar to coat cookies

Makes 4-5 dozen cookies.
