(KTVI) – Weight gain is a natural and healthy part of pregnancy. But, a March 25, 2014 study published in Diabetes Care Journal had some startling news. Researchers concluded that women who did not lose that weight within the first year after giving birth were at increased risk for diabetes and heart disease.

St. Louis University cardiologist Lisa Alderson explained the findings to FOX2’s Kim Hudson. She also shared ways a woman can take small steps to protect her health and her future with her family.
