ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- After a semester away at college, millions of students will head home for the holidays. It’s a good time for parents to re-connect with their children and make sure all is well while they’ve been away at school. And those conversations can and should be about a lot more than grades. Ned Presnall from Clayton Behavioral joined us to talk about mental health of and addictions in college-age adults.
Those who are enrolled in a full-time college program are twice as likely to abuse drugs and alcohol as those who don’t attend college. Students who are part of the Greek system are up to 26 percent more likely to binge drink according to the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center. And according to the National Institute of Mental Health, 25 percent of all college students struggle with an eating disorder.
