(KTVI) - Do you feel like chicken tonight?  Stop!  Before you pick up that poultry and head for that sink, don't wash that chicken!

Drexel University put together an animation enhanced with 'germvision'.  The animation shows rinsing the chicken does nothing to reduce germs and may even have the opposite effect.

Bacteria can ride on the misting water droplets, splattering the food-prep area in a 2-3 foot radius.

The water molecules carrying salmonella or campylobacter bacteria, two of the leading causes of food-borne illness.

Saint Louis University expert Donna Duberg discussed the reasons behind washing chicken and why it may be harmful.
