Tim’s Travels: Great River Road offers fun on the water and on the dock

GRAFTON, Ill. – Some of the best features of an ocean cruise are the unique places you visit along the way, and a river cruise is no different.

A paddlewheel riverboat is returning to southwest Illinois for summer and fall cruises.

The Spirit of Peoria offers a Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise on August 25. Boarding begins at 6:30 p.m. and the cruise will go from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $60.60.

There are also sightseeing cruises available. They are 90 minutes long and cost $27.50 for adults, $25.30 for seniors, and $15.40 for children ages 4 to 12. Morning sightseeing cruises depart at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon sightseeing cruises depart at 4:00 p.m.

Lunchtime cruises are also available. They are two hours long and are $49.50 per person. They run from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Loading Dock offers all sorts of entertainment. The owner, Pete Allen, said he loves all of the excitement. He said they host live music, big parties, weddings, ice skating in the winter, and spirits. Allen’s father turned the old boat factory into the fun place it is today. They are famous for their Dock Salsa. Allen said they make it fresh every day.
