ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KTVI)- Two pregnant Illinois residents have tested positive for the Zika virus after traveling to countries where the mosquito-borne virus is found.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) has issued a travel alert in the United States. The CDCP is warning pregnant women to avoid traveling to 14 countries and territories in the Caribbean and Latin America because of the possibility of birth defects.
Dr. Alexander Garza spoke with the Fox 2 team this morning to discuss the Zika virus, and the possible effects it can have. Dr. Garza is the former Medical Chief for the Department of Homeland Security and now the Associate Dean at Saint Louis University.
