ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) -Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, the disease eventually causes sufferers to be unable to control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and then death within two to five years.
The Walk to Defeat ALS is more than just another fundraising walk. Yes, the walk is the ALS Association’s biggest annual event, raising funds to sustain care services and support research for much of the next year. But it is also an opportunity to bring hope to people living with ALS, still hoping for a cure.
The St. Louis Walk will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016, in Forest Park. Check in begins at 8:30am and the walk begins at 10:00am.
