Amelia Mugavero

Amelia Mugavero is a reporter for Fox2 Now. Amelia was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.

Amelia left the Lone Star State for the Midwest in 2015 to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Why Illinois? Amelia is a world champion baton twirler and was offered the prestigious position of Feature Twirler for the Marching Illini. There she twirled for all home games, as well as performed at Chicago Bears games, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.

She comes from Tulsa, Oklahoma here she was a reporter for Oklahoma CBS affiliate, KOTV News on 6. Amelia joined the News on 6 team in 2019 and has covered a variety of historic news events: historic Oklahoma floods in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic, tornado damage, President Trump holding a rally in Tulsa, and stories impacting Native American tribes. One of her biggest stories was a mass murder in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where a man shot and killed 5 children —3 of which were his own children — and his own brother.

Amelia has experience writing, producing, and shooting stories as an intern for Fox and CBS TV affiliates in Texas and Illinois, and she was part of KDFW’s team covering the fatal ambush of Dallas police officers in July 2016.

Amelia competed in the Miss Illinois pageant and was first runner-up to Miss Illinois 2016.

Fun fact — Amelia and her mom were on the Price is Right back in March of 2019, where her mom won two trips to Florida and Savannah, Georgia.  In her spare time, Amelia loves to explore new restaurants (her favorite food is anything Italian and tacos), hike, read, and cuddle with her cat, Travis.
