ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Police are investigating three separate shootings that happened overnight in St. Louis. When it was over, three people were murdered and five people were shot. There are no suspects in custody. The shootings happened in north city within hours of one another. Police do not believe they are connected in any way.
The first shooting happened around 10:25 p.m. on Margareta near North Taylor, near a city fire station. Two men, ages 19 and 24, were shot near the fire house as they walked down the street. They were confronted by two other men. The pair tried to run, but were shot. Both victims were rushed to the hospital where the 24-year-old, identified as Chauncey Ball, was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old, who was shot multiple times, is expected to survive.
Around 1:15 a.m., two more men, ages 33 and 37, were shot on North Broadway in the Baden neighborhood. Police said the 37-year-old, identified as Larry McGee, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was shot in the chest and back. The 33-year-old victim, Willie Porter, was shot multiple times in the face and shoulder. He died en route to the hospital.
Just before midnight, another man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his thigh. He says he was shot on Clara at Kennerley. His injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
This brings the homicide count to 81 in the city.
