ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Tuesday night, a 3-year-old girl returning home from dinner with her parents was shot and wounded, after her father honked his horn at another driver who swerved over into his lane.

It happened about 7:25 near North Kingshighway and Lillian in north St. Louis.

St. Louis Police Captain Janice Bockstruck said the family was traveling north on Kingshighway at about Penrose, when the driver of a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck swerved over into their lane.  Fearing he was in the driver’s blind spot, and the driver didn’t see him, the father honked his horn.

Captain Bockstruck described what happened next.

“At Kingshighway and Lillian, the occupant of the black Ford F-150 pick-up truck that had swerved into their lane fired two shots at the vehicle, striking the passenger rear door.  And the 3-year-old child sitting in a car seat in the back sustained graze wounds to her right calf.”

The family’s grey sedan had at least two bullet holes in it.

Bockstruck said the little girl was transported to a hospital, but her wounds were minor.

Police are searching for the driver of the pick-up truck.
