Update - Good Samaritan Dies After River Rescue

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- A good Samaritan is in the hospital after trying to rescue a family floating in the Mississippi River.

This happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday near Wharf St. and Chouteau.

Rescue crews say three adults and two children, both under 5 years old, were in a fishing boat that ran out of gas. They called 911 for help and then tried to float to shore on a raft-like device.

The raft came near a barge and barge workers then got in a boat to help the family but that boat capsized.

When rescue crews made it to the scene, they pulled everyone out of the water and sent the single good Samaritan to be treated for injuries.

No word on how that person is doing this time.
