(KTVI) - Police say no charges will be filed after a five-year-old boy was found wandering at Schnucks.

According to the St. Louis Police, the child was spotted by a Schnucks employee at the store in the 1000 block of Loughborough late Thursday night.

Police say around 11 p.m., the store's night manager noticed him and the dog and realized the child was lost. The manager had the child come into the store and called police.

The child was unable to provide his last name or place of residence. Officers attempted to locate a guardian or parent but attempts were unsuccessful.

Officers were able to locate the child's mother Friday morning. The mother reported being asleep at the time the child was found and was unaware that the child was missing.

Police along with the Division of Family Service have decided no criminal action will be taken against the mother of the child, however, there will be strict oversight to ensure the mother and child receives the necessary assistance for a healthy living environment.
