ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – St. Louis city police are in north St. Louis Wednesday night, after a 6-year-old child was shot in the chest. Police say the child was transported to the hospital. We have learned that the child has since died from a gunshot wound.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 pm.

Police say  the crime scene is some 9 blocks long, between West Florissant and I-70.  An officer at the scene said a black SUV pulled along side the family’s car as they were returning from O’Fallon Park and started shooting. The father returned fired with a .22 caliber pistol.

An investigation is ongoing.
