ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)--A gas leak lead to the evacuation of 9 homes in North St. Louis. St. Louis City Fire Department Dan Sutter said the leak was capped just before 9pm and about an hour later residents were allowed to return.
The evacuation order was for homes near the leak at 5534 Genevieve. The house was vacant.
Sutter said Laclede Gas noticed a spike in usage in the area and sent a crew to investigate. That`s when they determined an evacuation was necessary.
Sutter said there was a request to cut power in the area as well. He said something as simple as a light switch turning on could trigger enough energy to cause a problem.
A cause for the leak had not been determined Monday night.
