Man charged in 6-year-old’s death

CALLAWAY COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - What started out as a missing child report has turned into a murder investigation in Callaway County, Missouri.   The victim was a six-year-old boy with Down Syndrome.

The child was reported missing early Thursday morning from a residence on Primrose Drive.   Around 3:15 a.m., the Missouri Highway Patrol helicopter was called in to help search.  The boy's body was found around 4am in the suspect's bedroom.  He was shot multiple times.

Scottie Willet,  27,  was arrested about two hours later in a trailer park in Sedalia, Missouri.  He is he child's uncle.  Police say he admitted to shooting the victim with a handgun.  They are charging him with 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

Willet was living at the home and is a  friend of the family.  Police say he was the only one with the child at the time of the murder.  The child's neighbor and grandmother called police about the shooting.

WDAF's Robert Townsend spoke to a woman who identified herself as Willet’s girlfriend. She said police also found a loaded handgun in the vehicle he was suspected of driving.
