7-year-old shot in South St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – St. Louis city police are investigating the shooting of a 7-year-old male child in the 3900 block of South Grand.  Police say the child suffered a graze wound to his buttocks while inside an apartment.

An investigation revealed that a male resident in the apartment building was handling a handgun when it discharged. Police say the man appeared to be intoxicated, and lived in a downstairs apartment.

The bullet that struck the child traveled through the ceiling to an upstairs apartment where the child residing.

The child was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The man who fired the handgun was taken into custody.
