COLLINSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – To understand how to play a game or watch a sporting event you need to see an expert, like Charlie Zuber.

'I sell programs,' says Charles Zuber, Program Vendor. 'I've been doing it for 63 years.'

Yes, since the Truman administration, Charlie Zuber is one the first faces and voices greeting you at Fairmount Race Track.

'It's just that him being able to take that extra time with the customers in particular since he's the first one you have contact with, it's like having a program seller/ ambassador here for the track at all times,' says Brian Zander, President Fairmount Park.

He knows the tips, hints and insight into the horses hoofing it around the track, like today's two time winner in a row.

'Cause you need to know his past performance, who he was bred by and who he's running against and how much money he's running from,' says Zuber.

Besides, without a program it's just a horse with no name

'Though wives and girlfriends and Mom's the world over may not believe it, Charlie credits his success and longevity with a day at the races,' says Patrick Clark.

'Just go to work and work it and enjoy your job and enjoy the people,' says Zuber.

'You think this track keeps you young,' asks Patrick Clark.

'Yes,' laughs Zuber.

Oh the lengths he's gone to remain a fixture at Fairmount, well its 63 years and counting.
