WASHINGTON PARK, IL (KTVI) – An abandoned horse was rescued by a animal rescue group in Washington Park, Illinois.

Gateway Pet Guardians  were looking to help stray animals in the Metro East when the came upon the horse tied to a tree. The horse appeared to be physically okay, but starving, according to a Gateway pet Guardians volunteer.

The group believes the horse was dumped there. One of the volunteers believes the horse may have become a liability and couldn’t take care of the horse.

But then the  Washington Park Police say they arrested a man who said he was watching the horse for an East St. Louis police officer.

Washington Park officers said they knew the East St. Louis police officer personally and know that he doesn’t have a horse.
