Pedestrian struck, killed at busy Maplewood intersection

MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – A busy intersection in Maplewood was closed for at least a couple of hours Monday afternoon following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian.

According to a Maplewood police spokesperson, the accident occurred around 2 p.m. at Manchester Road and S. Big Bend Avenue.

A man in his 60s was walking near a White Castle restaurant just north of the intersection when he was struck by a vehicle and killed. The driver remained at the scene to speak with police.

Police advised commuters to avoid the area and for north/south traffic to use either S. Hanley or McCausland.

The accident was cleared and traffic flowing by 6:15 p.m.
