Kansas City, MO (KCTV) — Authorities are investigating a shooting at a Carroll County post office Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses tell KCTV5 the shooting took place about 3:30 p.m. at the post office in Hale, MO, which is located on Main Street, between Second and Third streets.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says the victim is Michelle Bell, the acting postmaster. She was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital and last listed in stable condition.
The Missouri Highway Patrol and the United States Postal Inspection Service both confirm that they have crews on scene, but can’t release any other information at this time.
Authorities are being tight-lipped about the gunman. They say he suffered some gunshot wounds himself, but won’t say anything else.
Hale, MO, is located about two hours northeast of Kansas City. It has a population of just over 400.
